When do guests upload their photos? Most arrive in the week after the event

Published October 26, 2026 · By the Guest.Gallery team

You might expect most photos to arrive during the party. In our own numbers, most don’t. We counted 650,239 photos and videos uploaded to 1,954 paid events with an event date between May and September 2026, including uploads by hosts. Less than a quarter arrived on the event day. Most came in the seven days after.

Guest.Gallery is our own service, and these are counts from our own database. Below are the numbers, what they mean if you’re planning an event, and exactly how we counted.

When the uploads arrived

Each upload is placed by the day it started (Copenhagen time), compared with the event date. The shares are of all 650,239 uploads.

  • Before the event day1.3%
  • On the event day23.2%
  • Days 1 to 7 after59.0%
  • Day 8 or later16.5%
Share of all uploads by upload day. 1,954 paid events, event dates 1 May to 30 September 2026. Counted 26 October 2026.

So almost a quarter of the photos and videos arrived on the day itself, and about six in ten in the week that followed. About one in six came in on day 8 or later. Very few arrived before the event.

Keep in mind that this is upload time, not the time the photo was taken. A photo taken during dinner and uploaded the next morning counts as day 1.

A typical event

The median event received 259 photos and videos. The middle half of events received between 154 and 428.

Those uploads came from a median of 15 different devices per event (middle half: 11 to 21). Devices are not people: one guest can upload from two phones, two people can share one, and the host’s own uploads are included.

What this means for your event

If most photos arrive in the week after, the days after the event matter as much as the event itself:

  • Keep the gallery open after the event. 16.5% of uploads came on day 8 or later, so think in weeks, not hours. With Basic, the gallery is open for up to 3 months after the event date, and with Premium for up to 12 months. Your account shows the exact archive date.
  • Remind your guests in the days after. Send the same link once more a day or two after the event. In your event settings, you can also let guests opt in to a follow-up email with the gallery link.
  • Make it easy on the day as well. Almost a quarter of uploads arrive on the event day, so put the QR code on the tables and announce it once.

How we counted

  • A read-only count. The count finished on 26 October 2026. We only read from our own production database and changed nothing. No event, host or guest is named here.
  • Which events. Paid events (Basic or Premium, bought through checkout, no trials) with an event date from 1 May to 30 September 2026. Our own demo events, events whose owner’s email looks like one of our own or a test account, and deleted events were excluded. That left 1,954 events.
  • Which uploads. Photos and videos that finished uploading and haven’t been deleted: 650,239 in total (603,877 photos and 46,362 videos). Failed uploads aren’t counted.
  • Upload time, not capture time. We used the time each upload started, in Copenhagen time. The event day is the event date in Copenhagen time.
  • Devices, not people. The device count is the number of different devices that uploaded to an event. The device median covers the 1,938 events where a device was recorded.

What these numbers don’t show

  • Summer only. The events took place between May and September 2026, most of them in August and September. Winter events may look different.
  • All event types, not only weddings. We don’t store what kind of event it is, so the numbers cover every kind of paid event.
  • Deleted events can’t be counted. When an event is deleted, its photos are deleted too, so those events are missing. That leaves out many May and June events. A rough count that includes them moves the shares by a few percentage points.
  • Copenhagen time. For events in other time zones, uploads close to midnight may land on the next or previous day.
  • Some test events may remain. We excluded test accounts by their email, so a test event under an ordinary-looking account would still be counted.

Questions and answers

When do guests upload their photos after an event?

Mostly in the week after. In our count of 650,239 uploads to 1,954 paid events (May to September 2026), 23.2% arrived on the event day, 59.0% in the seven days after, 16.5% on day 8 or later and 1.3% before the event day.

How long should the gallery stay open for guests?

At least a few weeks after the event: about one in six uploads in our count arrived on day 8 or later. With Basic, the gallery is open for up to 3 months after the event date, and with Premium for up to 12 months.

How many photos and videos does an event get?

The median event in our count received 259 photos and videos (middle half: 154 to 428), from a median of 15 different devices (middle half: 11 to 21). Devices aren’t people: one guest can use two phones, and two people can share one.

Are these numbers for weddings?

They cover all paid events, not only weddings, because we don’t store the type of event. They’re from one summer: events dated May to September 2026.
